As part of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995, the Regulatory Reform (Fire SafetyOrder (RRO)2005 and current building regulations, it is now the law for businesses to provide a safe means of refuge for disabled persons in the event of a fire or emergency.
All non-residential buildings with more than one levelmust provide appropriate refuge for any person who is not able toeasily use stairs, lifts and fire escapes during an emergency.Regulations state that an effective form of two-way communication system must be located in designated refuge areas.
Elan’s disabled refuge systems provide fire-proof two-way communication pointsto enable fire marshals or building management to keep in contact with people taking refuge in these areas. The designated refuge areas are usually located on a landing or staircase along a main escape route.
All our system are designed, installed and commissioned in accordance to current British and European standards.
